What is COPD?
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease ("COPD"), is often known as chronic bronchitis and emphysema. The main symptoms are chronic cough, sputum and shortness of breath, is a general term for chronic bronchitis and emphysema. COPD is characterized by high prevalence rate, high disability rate and high fatality rate, long disease cycle, repeated acute exacerbation, and multiple comorbidities, which seriously affect the prognosis and quality of life of middle-aged and elderly patients and cause heavy medical burden.
What causes COPD?
Smoking: Tobacco smoke contains more than 7,000 chemicals and hundreds of harmful ingredients. Our bronchus, bronchioles, and alveoli have been eroded by these harmful particles and gases for a long time and have lost their elasticity, making it difficult for gases to enter and exit, and we will feel short of breath and poor breathing.
Dust and harmful gases: People engaged in geology, engineering, chemical and other industries, long-term exposure to silica, chlorine and other harmful substances, can cause chronic inflammation of the respiratory tract, and eventually lead to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
High-risk groups: People aged 35 years and older with the main symptoms of COPD, smoking history, occupational dust exposure history, chemical exposure history, biofuel smoke exposure history, and family history of COPD.
How can I prevent it?
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease can be prevented by quitting smoking, controlling occupational and environmental pollution, vaccinations, strengthening exercise, and monitoring lung function.
