Norovirus
Norovirus, also known as pyoviruses, grouped to the caliciviridae and is a type of virus that causes non-bacterial acute gastroenteritis. The virus has the characteristics of short incubation period, rapid mutation, strong environmental resistance, diverse transmission routes, and low infection dose, so it is easy to cause transmission among people. Norovirus is a virus that is prevalent worldwide and can occur throughout the year. In China, the peak season for norovirus infections is usually from October to March, which may be related to seasonal changes and people gathering more indoors in winter.
The most common symptoms of norovirus infection are diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, or accompanied with fever, headache and other symptoms. Vomiting and nausea are common in children, diarrhea is common in adults, and vomiting is rare. The course of the disease is generally 2-3 days, and the disease is a self-limiting disease without sequelae after recovery.
Norovirus is spread by a variety of means, including droplets, contact and contamination of food or water. This makes public places, schools, hospitals, nursing homes and other places where people gather become high-risk areas for norovirus transmission. There is currently no vaccine or specific drug for norovirus infection. For infants and the elderly, especially those with underlying diseases, if they have symptoms of vomiting or diarrhea, they should be screened in time, and if the situation is serious, they need to seek medical treatment in time.
Wizbiotech's norovirus antigen assay kit (Colloid gold), CE and UKCA certified and sold in several countries, is a simpler and cheaper test that provides doctors with important information on a patient's diarrhoea, monitoring treatment and recurrence.
